A Comprehensive Analysis of Hyperlactatemia Biomarkers and Clinical Manifestations of Low Back Pain Among Oil Palm Plantation Workers
Main Article Content
Abstract
Work-related musculoskeletal disorders, specifically low back pain (LBP), severely impact the overall productivity of oil palm plantation workers. This observational study comprehensively investigates the direct correlation between hyperlactatemia biomarkers and LBP severity among manual harvesters at PT Tasma Puja. Examining exactly 100 validated respondents, we carefully assessed capillary lactic acid concentrations utilizing diagnostic testing devices alongside measuring pain intensity via strictly validated clinical questionnaires. Results robustly revealed that 91% of these specific workers exhibited acute hyperlactatemia, while absolutely every participant reported experiencing LBP, with 55% suffering from functionally disturbing pain. Extreme mechanical workloads combined with continuously poor ergonomic postures force paraspinal muscles into sustained anaerobic glycolysis. The subsequent localized tissue acidosis significantly inhibits optimal muscle contractility and directly stimulates nociceptive receptors, which severely exacerbates chronic lumbar conditions. Ultimately, implementing mandatory workplace reengineering, structured task rotation schedules, and routine biomarker monitoring remains extremely vital to effectively prevent irreversible occupational musculoskeletal disabilities.
