Publication Frequency
Smart: Journal of Islamic Religion and Sharia Studies (SSharia) follows a systematic and regular publication schedule to ensure the timely dissemination of high-quality scholarship while maintaining the rigor of our double-blind peer-review process.
I. Publication Schedule
The journal is published triannually (three times a year). The standard release months for each volume's issues are:
-
Issue 1: February
-
Issue 2: June
-
Issue 3: October
Each issue features a curated selection of original research articles, theoretical analyses, and book reviews. Special or thematic issues often resulting from international academic conferences or focusing on highly relevant contemporary Sharia discourse may be published as supplementary issues alongside the regular schedule.
II. Editorial and Production Timeline
To accommodate this triannual frequency without compromising academic standards, the editorial board accepts and processes submissions on a continuous, rolling basis throughout the year.
While review times can vary depending on manuscript complexity and reviewer availability, authors can generally expect the following timeline:
-
Initial Editorial Screening: 1–2 weeks from the date of submission.
-
Double-Blind Peer Review: 4–8 weeks for the first round of reviewer feedback.
-
Revision and Final Decision: 2–4 weeks following the author's submission of a revised manuscript.
-
Copyediting and Production: 2–3 weeks post-acceptance.
Authors are strongly encouraged to submit their manuscripts at least three to four months prior to their targeted publication month (e.g., submitting in October for the February issue).
III. Online First Publication (Advance Access)
To accelerate the sharing of significant findings and support the global academic community, SSharia employs an "Online First" (continuous article publication) model.
Once a manuscript has been formally accepted, copyedited, and typeset, it is immediately published online with a permanent Digital Object Identifier (DOI). These articles are fully citable and accessible before they are formally paginated and compiled into the next scheduled issue (February, June, or October).
